CRITERIA FOR DIAGNOSING A DOUBLE BUBBLE SIGN

Demonstration of two fluid-filled bubbles in the upper abdomen of the fetus does not necessarily indicate duodenal obstruction or atresia. There are many causes of a "Pseudo-Double-Bubble" Sign.

  1. The distended fluid filled duodenum is located to the right of the midline and fluid-filled stomach which is located to the left of the midline.
  2. Two adjacent echolucent masses in the upper abdomen.
  3. Connection between the two fluid-filled structures.
