ULTRASOUND OF

ATRIOVENTRICULAR SEPTAL DEFECTS

• Defect in the atrial and / or ventricular septa.
• Single abnormal AV valve that hinges at the same level.

• Absence of crux of heart.
• +/- AV valve regurgitation.
• +/- hypoplasia of one ventricle.
• +/- outflow tract obstruction.
• Abnormal visceral / atrial situs in heterotaxy syndrome.
• Demonstration of a bridging leaflet may help in differentiating complete from incomplete forms.
• 70% trisomy 21 (balanced atrioventricular septal defect).
• Fetal bradycardia (78 beats/min).
