- Elevated diaphragm.
- Mass may be present at the level of the heart on the four chamber view.
- Density of the mass on the right may resemble liver tissue.
- On the left side the stomach may be at the level of the heart.
- No mediastinal displacement.
- Lobulated diaphragm contour.
- In the coronal plane an echolucent line or membrane that is contiguous with the diaphragm, and separating the mass from the thoracic cavity may be present.
- Small diaphragmatic excursions during fetal breathing.

unusual in diaphragmatic hernia. |
DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS |
Chest masses with a similar density to liver and an echogenic border include:
- Type II cystic adenomatoid malformation (usually have pleural effusions, hydrops and mass effect).
- Extralobar pulmonary sequestration adjacent to the diaphragm.
- Cardiac teratoma (usually has a pericardial effusion).
- Congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
