- Defect in which the open cranial
defect (anencephaly) is in continuity with the open spinal defect (spinal
dysraphia).
- Occurs due to total failure
of neurulation to occur.
- Arises no later than 20-22
days post conception.
- Most fetuses spontaneously
abort in early pregnancy.
- Craniorachischisis is present
in up to 10% of anencephalic fetuses (1).
