POLYHYDRAMNIOS AND
OLIGOHYDRAMNIOS
IN TRISOMY 18
|
- Frequency of polyhydramnios
is age dependent.
- Not reported in the first and
early second trimesters.
- Prevalence ranges from 29-62%
in the third trimester.
- Polyhydramnios in the
presence of symmetrical IUGR suggests that a chromosomal abnormality
(especially trisomy 18) may be present as oligohydramnios usually
accompanies the IUGR that is present.
- IUGR and polyhydramnios
occurred in 21% of trisomy 18 fetuses in one series (1).
- Polyhydramnios in trisomy 18
without fetal intestinal obstruction suggests a severe central nervous
system deficit (2).
