- Vitreous body, lens and
anterior chamber is usually visible.
- Lateral rectus muscle is a
thin hypoechogenic line close to the orbital surface of the zygomatic
bone.
- Medial rectus muscle can be
visualized along the orbital plate of the ethmoid bone.
- Visualization of the other
extraocular muscles of the eye is facilitated by fetal eye movements.
- The optic nerve is a
hypoechoic structure exiting the globe opposite the lens. Its medial
course distinguishes it from the surrounding muscle.
- The eyelids may be visualized
when the eyes are closed.
