FRONTO-ETHMOIDAL ENCEPHALOCELE

• Most common variety in Southeast Asia.
• Nasoethmoidal, nasofrontal, nasoorbital and interfrontal.
• Mass near the dorsum of the nose, ear and forehead due to a defect in the frontal and ethmoidal bones).
• 90% - intracranial end of the defect is a single midline ostium that corresponds to the foramen cecum.
• 10% - an intact midline bridge of bone divides the defect into bilateral, paired ostia situated at the anterior ends of the cribriform plates.
• Hypotelorism.

ASSOCIATIONS

• Midline cranial dysraphism (callosal agenesis, interhemispheric lipoma and anomalies of neuronal migration).

DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS

Nasal Teratoma	-  Irregularly shaped and heterogeneous.
Cloverleaf Skull	-  No calvarial defect.
Dacrocystoceles	-  Cystic and medial to the globe.
