NORMAL CONVEX CONTOUR OF THE FETAL CRANIUM
Ovoid and symmetrical.
Slight flattening of the forehead.
Slight convex bilateral bulging of the parietal eminences.
Brighter and thicker than the falx on the trans-axial view.
Continuity of the calvarium.
Assessment of the orbits
Size, shape and interorbital distance.
Abnormalities of the orbits may be the first clue that other cranial anomalies exist.
Moulding and overlap of the cranium sutures may occur in:
Severe oligohydramnios.
Premature rupture of membranes.
Extrinsic transducer pressure.
It is important to demonstrate normal cranial ossification (this differentiates this from osteogenesis imperfecta).
