RENAL ARTERIES |
Color doppler has enabled visualization of the renal arteries in the early second trimester. Identification is important when trying to diagnose renal agenesis, as the severe oligohydramnios that is present, coupled by the discoid appearance of the adrenal glands may result in an incorrect result.
There is a significant relationship between the length of the aorta from the
bifurcation of the iliac arteries to the renal arteries, using the femur length
as the independent variable. Using this system the sonographer can identify the
bifurcation of the iliac arteries and determine the 99% prediction interval of
where the renal arteries should originate and be imaged.
