ANTERIOR CEREBRAL ARTERY

• Imaging Plane: Base of the skull at the level of the temporal and sphenoidal bones is the preferred plane.
• Anatomy.
• Give rise to the frontal polar and medial orbits frontal artery.
• After they are linked by the anterior communicating artery, the pericallosal artery arises.
• It proceeds on the dorsal surface (top) of the corpus callosum turning up and ending as the precuneal artery, turning on to the outer surface of the hemisphere.
• Pericallosal artery.
• Emerges just after the anterior communicating artery link.
• Runs on the dorsal (top) surface of the corpus callosum.
• Turns and ends in the precuneal artery.
• Callosomarginal artery.
• Arises from the pericallosal artery at the level of the genu of the corpus callosum.
• Runs in the cingulate sulcus, above the cingulate gyrus.
• It also turns upward and ends in its marginal branch, the paracentral artery.
• Waveform.
• Fall in PI in the 3rd trimester.
• PI of proximal ACA is significantly different from the PI of the MCA, but not significantly different from the PI of the ICA.
